Savanna May Royes, known to many as “Savy,” was the youngest of three children, born on May 1, 2005, more than five years after her siblings. She grew into a caring and loving young woman who found joy in roller coasters, dirt bike riding, Beyoncé, musicals and meaningful friendships.

Her warmth, kindness, and confident spirit touched everyone around her. Savy brought vibrant energy to family gatherings, often organizing games and activities, and from an early age showed a strong sense of independence, confidently facing any challenge.

She also displayed an entrepreneurial mindset. At 12, she explored starting an online business inspired by YouTubers, and by Grade 8 she was already envisioning a future as a life coach, passionate about helping others grow and achieve their goals. It was always clear that whatever path Savy chose, she would pursue it with grace and confidence.

As she grew older, Savy explored different fields of study until she realized her passion for aviation. Aware that only about 1% of commercial pilots in Canada are Black women, she set her sights on becoming a commercial airline pilot, determined to help change that statistic and carve out her place in the industry.

In March 2025, Savy began her flight training in Manitoba. Tragically, on July 8, 2025, she lost her life in a mid-air collision during a training flight. A passionate soon-to-be pilot, she is remembered as a light and a joy by her fellow pilots in training, driven by her dream of following her father into commercial aviation.

Savy had a rare gift for making others feel seen and valued. Her legacy of love, laughter, and compassion lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Her Celebration of Life was held on July 30, 2025.
